Victim, suspects identified in Rutland shooting

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – One man is dead and two people are in custody after a shooting Friday night in Rutland.

In video obtained by WCAX, a ring security camera shows the victim – who police say is 32-year-old Christopher Hale – walking onto the porch of a home on Elm St. around 7:00 o’clock Friday night and knocking on the door.

Hale waits and knocks again, giving no indication he’s in danger. And then multiple gunshots, appearing to come from the street.

The alleged shooter runs away in the background and Hale is dragged into the house

Police say Hale later died at the hospital.

Several people WCAX spoke to that didn’t want to be on camera that live in this neighborhood say it’s a quiet area, and they are shocked that a shooting happened on this street.

“I was walking two streets over by Stewarts, coming towards this way. Going down to the transit station. I just heard the gun shots. I froze in a spot and just tried to listen where they came from,” Keith Porter of Rutland said.

Police say they took two people into custody. 28-year-old Dylin Wainscott of Westfield, MA is charged with First Degree Murder and Possession of a Narcotic.

38-year-old Precious Okorie — of Springfield, MA is charged with Conspiracy and Accessory Before the Fact.

Both suspects are being held without bail pending arraignment on Monday.

Police do say they believe this was a targeted incident and there is no additional threat to the public.
