One person dead, two in custody after shooting in Rutland

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Rutland City Police are investigating after a fatal shooting overnight.

Police say they received a report of gunshots on Elm Street in the area of Grant Avenue, just after 7:00 p.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they found one person with gunshot wounds. That person was subsequently taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center where they later died.

Rutland City Police have two people in custody in connection with the shooting.

Police have not released any names of the victim, or people in custody. The victim’s name will be released after next of kin are notified.

According to Rutland City Police, this was a targeted and isolated incident. There is no threat to the public.
