South Burlington Food Shelf’s new electric van unveiled

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A generous donation will help provide new opportunities for the South Burlington Food Shelf.

We told you last week the South Burlington Rotary Club was donating a brand new electric van to the food shelf. Tuesday, that van was unveiled.

Leaders say it will help them boost efficiency, reduce the use of fossil fuels and expand their services.

“It’s a tremendous help to us. Instead of sending two or four cars over somewhere like Trader Joe’s to pick up food, we’re making one trip in an electric vehicle which is great,” said Peter Carmolli, the director of the South Burlington Food Shelf.

“This van represents more than just transportation, it really represents hope for many people,” said Patrick Leduc, the president of Faith Influenced Leaders.

The food shelf opened its doors five years ago and now serves more than 1,300 households each month. That’s almost double from when they started.
