Public meeting Tuesday on future of Jay State Forest

MONTGOMERY CENTER, Vt. (WCAX) – State leaders are looking for your input on the future of a northern Vermont forest.

The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Rec is developing a long-range management plan for the Jay State Forest.

The forest includes more than 8,000 acres of land covering Jay, Montgomery, Richford and Westfield, and has areas for skiing and hiking.

The management plan will look ahead at the next 20 years.

The plan will not include operations at the Jay Peak Resort which is under a separate lease agreement.

That meeting is Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Montgomery Town Hall.

You can also give your input through an online survey.
