Burlington library to hire staff to better serve homeless patrons

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Fletcher Free Library in Burlington has gotten the green light to add new staff to help patrons in need.

WCAX News has reported on how the Fletcher Free Library has become a hot spot in the city for open drug use and loitering by homeless people.

At a City Council meeting Monday, the library won approval for $100,000 for a position to help people in need. The hope is that having help at the library with access to services will help cut down on emergency responses and increase access to mental health care.
