Pawlet triple murder suspect waives extradition at NY court appearance

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (WCAX) – A triple murder suspect will return to Vermont to face charges.

Brian Crossman Jr. Thursday afternoon waived his extradition in a New York courtroom. He was arrested in New York last week for the shooting deaths of his father, Brian Crossman, 46; his stepmother, Erica Crossman, 41; and his stepbrother, old Colin Taft, 13.

Crossman Jr. told Vermont police that on Sept. 15, he went for a walk and when he returned to his family’s Pawlet home, he found they had all been shot to death. Investigators say the home was covered in blood, firearms and shell casings, and that Crossman Jr.’s story was inconsistent.

Warren County officials set what they call a control date of October 23, meaning he has to be picked up by Vermont authorities by that date. His arraignment in Vermont has not been scheduled.

The charges of aggravated murder carry a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
