PITTSFORD, Vt. (WCAX) – A southern Vermont group is helping seniors stay healthy in rural areas.
The Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging held a Community Health Day in Pittsford on Thursday. Seniors got free health screenings, updated vaccinations, education and resources from multiple health care organizations at the Pittsford Recreation Area.
Leaders with the council say the remote areas where some seniors live play a major part in their long-term health.
“These types of events really are the key to getting in and letting people know that even though they do live in a rural area, these supports and these services are available to them at any time,” said Joy Mortelliti, the coordinator of the Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging. “That mission is very inclusive of the type of lifestyle people still want to live despite the fact that they might be aging.”
The Council on Aging will hold two more community health days in October, one in Manchester and the other in Rupert.
