BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – One Vermont senator is making sure the move to renewable doesn’t leave Vermont workers behind.
That’s the topic taking center stage at one event with Senator Peter Welch.
Welch was at the Brookings Center on Regulation and Markets to talk about the future of workers in the fossil fuel industry.
He highlighted the focus on workforce development and reskilling opportunities for people losing their jobs during the clean energy transition.
Welch highlighted the green industries in Vermont in need of skilled workers and workers who have already made the switch.
“Just an example: in Vermont, we’ve someone who was a petroleum engineer and moved into the EV space. And it’s obviously a person who’s got significant skills that are transferrable but require some training,” said Welch.
Senator Welch also discussed the role of private-public partnerships to make reskilling easier and create a pipeline to jobs.
