PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Festivities are getting underway in the lake city to commemorate the Battle of Plattsburgh.
According to the Battle of Plattsburgh Association, British forces crossed into New York from Montreal in 1814, moving towards the city on foot and by water.
They say it was the largest invasion in US history – and that the September 11 battle effectively ended the war of 1812.
The annual celebrations to commemorate the date start today and run through this weekend.
