BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Support staff workers at Central Vermont Medical Center are celebrating after 79% of their team voted to unionize today.
With over 300 employees a part of the new union, member Spencer Starr tells us she’s excited to take it all in after 10 months of organizing before heading to the bargaining table.
There, she says the union’s main goals will be higher pay, work flexibility, safer staffing ratios, better benefits, and a more respected voice.
“Hiring is incredibly difficult, but with better benefits and better pay, we’re able to recruit more people to CVMC to continue having better access,” said Starr.
Their vote to unionize comes just over a year after the nurses and technical professionals at Central Vermont Medical Center won their union election.
