UVM trustees say interim president pick will give school continuity

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The University of Vermont board of trustees on Monday named an interim president to lead the school. The announcement comes after news of the departure of Suresh Garimella, who is leaving to become president of the University of Arizona.

The board picked current Provost and Senior Vice President Patty Prelock to take the reins while the trustees search for a permanent replacement.

UVM Board of Trustees Chair Ron Lumbra says Prelock will give the school continuity it needs, but for now, she will only be a temporary replacement.

“At the moment, she’s decided to just be the interim, although she’s reserving judgment after being in the role for a couple of months. She’ll then make a determination about whether she’d like to be considered for the permanent position,” Lumbra said.
