Vermont artists showcased in new exhibit

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont Historical Society is presenting a major exhibition of paintings, prints, and drawings by Vermont artists.

“For the Love of Vermont: The Lyman Orton Collection” is a selection from the largest private collection of 20th-century artwork collected by Lyman Orton, best known as the proprietor of The Vermont Country Store. It features more than 80 works of Vermont scenes created between 1910 and 1970 by 50 artists.

Katharine Huntley spoke with Orton about how he began collecting art and what led to the new exhibit.

The exhibit is on display at the Pavillion Building in Montpelier through December.
