Residents push Burlington city council for change regarding BTV’s F-35s

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Chittenden County residents admonished the Air Force’s F-35s and called for a resolution to replace them.

The room was packed inside the Contois Auditorium Monday night, most of them there to show their support for a resolution “requesting Vermont’s congressional delegation request [of] the Secretary of the United States Air Force [to] replace the current F-35 mission with one that causes no harmful noise to the people living around the airport, and one that is fully compatible with residential neighborhoods.”

Even the wife of an Air Force pilot stated that “nothing has been worse for the reputation of the guard than the F-35s”, and an overwhelming majority of public commenters were worried for the safety and education of “the children”

“Our classes will sometimes have to stop because the F-35′s are so loud. We cannot hear our teachers and we cannot hear our peers. It’s a really big issue. I think we’re not taking this into consideration about education and the next generation,” said former Burlington student Julia Handel.

The city council has not yet made a decision as of this article’s publishing.
