BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – New York Rangers are back in the Empire State after spending a few weeks fighting fires out west.
21 wildland firefighters were on a two-week assignment, most of them putting in firefighter efforts at the Grouse Fire in Montana.
The crew boss was a forest ranger from Essex and Franklin counties, working with other rangers to patrol for hot spots and look for potential threats to buildings.
Forest Ranger Logan Quinn from Essex County was at the Grouse Fire remembering the lasting impact of his work on the front line.
I believe the day we left the fire, it had grown to about 3,000 acres. 4:51 but the line that we put in along service roads did hold. We helped with those holding efforts and mopping up that line to make sure it was cool and it didn’t come back in that direction,” said Quinn.
He says the trip is a good experience to see how other teams operate and fight bigger fires than New York has.
New York’s governor says more rangers will be heading to Montana today and more are expected to join them in the weeks to come.
