BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – More than $100,000 in college scholarships were handed out to kids in Burlington on Monday.
The Boys and Girls Club of Burlington awarded scholarships to members starting or continuing college, a tradition spanning 11 years.
Younger members accepted the gifts for their college-aged peers who couldn’t make it to the ceremony.
The support is key to some members’ decisions to pursue college at all.
“Oh, my God. Honestly, it’s kind of unexplainable. I think it’s just really nice that I’m getting support through college. Obviously, one of my biggest worries was getting through financially. The club kind of just giving me the opportunity with some financial help, it just means a lot to me, honestly. I take it to heart,” said Sarah Ali, one of the scholarship recipients.
Ali will begin her college journey at the University of Vermont next week. She hasn’t decided on a major yet.
