Suspect in Burlington robbery arrested again after violating conditions of release

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A woman who police say has robbed two older men in downtown Burlington is behind bars after violating her conditions of release.

Burlington police say 39-year-old Melody Phillips assaulted a 72-year-old man and robbed him in broad daylight on church street Wednesday morning.

They say while the man was withdrawing money from the downtown marketplace ATM, Phillips grabbed his hand, causing him to fall, then allegedly took his wallet and cash and fled.

Phillips was arrested in Winooski, and released soon after on the condition that she stay off Church Street, an agreement officers say– she violated today…

Police also say their investigation found that Phillips is the same woman who stole a 97-year-old man’s wallet on July 7th. She also allegedly stole tip money from a local business on the same day.

She is being held on $1,000 bail and will appear in court tomorrow morning.
