VERGENNES, Vt. (WCAX) – Local indigenous heritage is on display this weekend.
Abenaki Heritage Weekend is Saturday and Sunday at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes.
The free, family-friendly event, organized by the Vermont Abenaki Artists Association, features storytelling, music, art, games, and more.
Organizers tell us there’s also a new exhibit to check out this year.
“The new exhibit is called Deep Roots, Strong Branches, and it focuses on Abenaki continuity of culture. Sort of like from a deep history right into the present,” said VAAA Executive Director Vera Longtoe Sheehan.
The event runs 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days, and if it’s raining, they’ll have events indoors or under tents.
