MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The City of Montpelier is asking the public to keep an eye out for an imposter scam.
Montpelier’s finance office says an imposter has been trying to withdraw funds from people’s bank accounts with a memo line citing ‘Town/City of Montpelier’.
They say the scammer was test-withdrawing small amounts of money – less than a dollar – to verify account validity.
The City Finance Direct was able to confirm with the local bank that there was no fraudulent activity on the city account.
