BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Flags were at half-mast across the Empire State this weekend for a forest ranger from our region.
Ranger Robbi Mecus worked with the Department of Environmental Conservation in the north country.
Mecus died in an ice-climbing accident in Alaska’s Denali National Park in April.
She worked with the New York DEC for 25 years, working to conserve New York’s natural resources, educate the public about trail safety, and help with complex search missions and wildfire response.
As a trans woman, she was also an advocate for inclusion in the DEC.
A celebration of life was held over the weekend to remember her service to the department.
