BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont is receiving money to help tobacco use go up in smoke.

The Department of Health has awarded almost $800,000 in grants to organizations across the state.

The money is aimed at reducing tobacco use and increasing awareness about the risks to keep people from starting in the first place.

According to the Health Department, nearly a quarter of Vermont adults use tobacco – and rates of vaping have doubled since 2016.

The Health Department says the growing accessibility of high-strength nicotine products is a health concern.
