PLATTSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) – North Country leaders gathered Thursday to discuss solutions to tackling the housing crisis.

The event was hosted by the town of Plattsburgh. Various community groups and non-profits broke into sessions to discuss things like how to handle housing proposals and how local policies affect housing growth.

Plattsburgh’s town supervisor Michael Cashman says it’ll require a collective effort to address the housing shortage.

“The truth is it requires collaboration across all sectors. That’s why events like today, the symposium, are so vital. It is an opportunity to pool our collective wisdom, and explore innovative solutions towards partnerships that transcend their traditional boundaries,” said Cashman.

Also Thursday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued several certificates to North Country municipalities officially designating them as pro-housing communities, including the village of Champlain and the town of Tupper Lake.
