BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) – Kids and their families packed into the Barre Auditorium Monday night to watch their teachers and staff from the Twinfield school face off against the renowned entertainment basketball team the Harlem Wizards.

Vermont Hall of Fame inductee David Ball joined the home team. “When I was a young kid about my son’s age, who’s here with me tonight, I started my love of basketball watching a crew like this. So it’s a really amazing night for me and an amazing event,” said Ball.

Ball’s son Braden says his dad introduced him to the sport. “he’s been showing me how to dunk and he’s a really good player, he practices at home, we’ve been getting out to basketball hoop to practice and I’ve been getting really good because of my dad. I hope I can be just like him when I grow up,” he said.

Events like these grow his, and others’, passion for the game.

“It’s been very fun, I’ve enjoyed the Harlem Wizards a lot and just how fun they are,” said John Caswell of Randolph.

“It’s one of the best experiences ever, you get to meet all the players and have a lot of fun, it’s pretty awesome,” said attendee Tucker Kidder.

Most of the proceeds from the ticket sales go towards the Twinfield-Cabot athletics program.

“To see them come out here and bring their passion for the sport to our local community’s really really awesome,” said Ball.

In addition to watching the game, kids got to meet the Harlem Wizards and have things signed by them, they also got to play a few rounds themselves.
