IRASBURG, Vt. (WCAX) – An Irasburg bridge has reopened following an emergency replacement project after a propane tanker fire.
For the past five months, Bridge 129 over the Black River on Route 14 had been closed to all traffic after a propane tanker crash in December.
The crash on December 4 happened when the tanker operated by Northern Gas Transport slid off the bridge. The resulting fire burned for more than a day, compromising the bridge and forcing the evacuation of residents in a one-mile radius. No one was injured.
The reconstruction of the 136-foot steel bridge was funded by $1.2 million in federal quick-release emergency relief funds.
