RICHMOND, Vt. (WCAX) – An annual painting project is bringing together members of the Richmond community. It’s artwork people headed up Route 2 will soon see.

The Richmond Town Center got a splash of color Monday morning.

“We are painting the murals,” said Macie Heiser, 9, of Richmond.

The murals are replaced every May in an effort organized by the nonprofit Radiate Art Space which fills the basement in the same building that hosts the town offices, the police station and the post office. They invited the community to submit artwork and then paint it on the side of the building.

“We are all about community art here,” said Ellen Falsgraf of Radiate.

“We came up with scenes that represent community and we sketched it out and now we are painting it on the panels,” Heiser explained.

Turning those ideas on paper into reality is a moment these kids will never forget.

“Cool because then you can look at your own art on the town hall,” said Z.G. Hollocker, 10, of Jericho. “It’s something that other people probably enjoyed that you made.”

“It actually feels pretty cool,” Heiser said. “Yes, pretty cool. It’s fun.”

Which is the goal for the community art project.

“It’s just fantastic. It’s amazing,” Falsgraf said. “It’s what Radiate is all about and it’s what community art is.”

The panels should be complete in a few weeks.
