KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Killington town officials hope big incentives will help them hire more police officers.

The Killington Police Department currently has only two employees, the police chief and one patrol officer.

Town Manager Michael Ramsey says extra patrols are needed, especially when visitors flock to town in the winter.

To attract more qualified officers to the force, the town plans to offer big incentives to new hires.

“There are a lot of towns that recruit police officers. So, I think we are kind of just joining the club here. We think Killington is a really special place to be a police officer. We have got the mountain we have got golfing. We’ve got great benefits. So, we just want to kind of boost that a little bit,” Ramsey said.

The town has not yet worked out the benefits package but sign-on bonuses could be up to $10,000.
