BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – ‘Tis the season for a hike hiatus in some of Vermont’s wild lands as peregrine falcon nesting closes some Vermont cliffs and overlooks.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife will check cliffs for falcons and they will be closed until August – or until the department determines there is no risk to nesting peregrines.
According to biologists, the birds are sensitive to human presence during their breeding season, so it’s important to keep a safe distance.
Peregrine falcons were taken off Vermont’s endangered species list almost 20 years ago.
