BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Plans for new housing in Burlington’s South End will be discussed at the City Council meeting Monday night.

The council is entering into a pre-development agreement with two partners to build mixed-use housing in the Innovation District.

Several months ago, the council rezoned the South End to allow for hundreds if not thousands of new units to be built on large parking lots off Pine Street.

“The idea is to stand up a whole new neighborhood in the South End Innovation District, a place to live, work and play,” said Ben Traverse, D-Burlington City Council. “Right now, the South Innovation District is basically just surface parking lots. And so we need to work with other community partners to figure out what’s this neighborhood going to look like? Where are we going to put the streets, sidewalks and bike paths?”

The council is expected to approve the development agreement next month.
