BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Preparations for the eclipse are taking off at the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport.

The moon will pass in between the sun and the earth plunging our region into darkness on April 8. Burlington is in the path of totality and will be in darkness for about 3 minutes and 15 seconds.

Officials at the Burlington airport say the eclipse will not impact air traffic that day.

With heightened interest from visitors to make it to Vermont for the eclipse, there is hope that more flights to Burlington will be added. And officials expect a large rise in noncommercial flights heading to the airport.

“We are anticipating between 200 and 300 private planes coming to the Patrick Leahy airport just for the solar eclipse,” the airport’s Jeff Bartley said.

The airport is taking advantage of the airfield to host an eclipse party. It costs $100 to attend and features food, drinks and entertainment. Click here for more information.
