HANOVER, N.H. (WCAX) – Students from Hanover High School Thursday are staging the North American premiere of a new Ukrainian play.

“I’m Fine” is written by award-winning Ukrainian playwright Nina Zakhozhenko. It is set in set in Bucha, Ukraine, and tells the stories of four 17-year-old friends as Russia’s invasion of the country gets underway in February of 2022. The play was translated into English with the help of Hanover High and Dartmouth College students who are Ukrainian refugees. The cast hopes that the play resonates with the audience, reminding them that the two-year-old war continues.

“The characters in the play are in so many ways so much like the teenagers at Hanover High and all around America. And I think seeing that lens reflected back at you from the stage can potentially have a very profound, empathetic effect,” said Tommy Crawford, the play’s music director.

Performances of “I’m Fine” are scheduled for 7 p.m., Feb. 1-3. Some of the box office proceeds will be used as a fundraiser for Ukraine.
